San Martin is well known for its great value for the price. I can say such a reputation is well deserved. The SN 0004 – GA is PHENOMENAL at this price level.
The case: Very well shaped and polished to a finish I would usually see on a watch with a higher price. Possible improvement: Place a SM logo and the model name on the back (On the movement cover)
The bezel: Fairy well made. While the current version differs aesthetically from the R***x 6538 from which it took inspiration (Please note: The first version of the 0004 resembled it more closely), SM was right to pick suck a design. It actually ensures a better grip. The bezel can be rotated easily and it is well allgned to the dials.
Possible improvement: Make it a little smoother. Just a little.
The dials: I really like the combo gold-on-black background created by the r***x-like hands and black backgound (It would also work well with Chrome/Silver). Possible improvements: The hourd markers could have a more prominent contour. This could be achieved with frame (Like SM is doing with its SN-00017 model). That would improve the look. Also: It would be nice to have a time-date option (The NH movement offers such a complication) with the date on three o’clock or a full date-month / date-day combo just above 6 o’clock (Like “20 june” or “28 – Tuesday”.
– The movement: NH35. Very common, reliable and easy to maintain, hack and replace. A good choice that can serve the owner well for longer periods if serviced every 4-6 years. As advertised, it can run a little slow (In my case a round 20 seconds delay), but this can be easily fixed by just setting its speed. A small fix can be achieved cheaply. Possible improvement: Set the correct speed out of the box.
All considered: Great value for money. This watch is going to be my next daily watch. I’m definitely into seeing further developments of it.
